Co-founders Lindsay and Moira Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent over two decades refining the STOTT PILATES Method of exercise.
STOTT PILATES is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. Amanda has always felt a great appreciation for the integrity and clarity the updated method promotes. The goal with STOTT PILATES is to safely and effectively achieve optimal functional fitness.
The philosophy STOTT PILATES promotes is the promise to be responsible, intelligent and safe. The refined method resulting in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and rehabilitation – making it one of the safest and most effective methods available. The foundation of STOTT PILATES includes preparatory exercises and modifications allowing the technique to be appropriate for many different body types and abilities, making it applicable to sport-specific, rehabilitative training and everyday life.
STOTT PILATES is the premier brand of Merrithew™. It is out of this innovative foundation of modern exercise principles that Merrithew has developed a growing family of mind-body modalities. ZEN•GA, another brand developed by Merrithew, leans towards fascial fitness where as STOTT PILATES is designed more for functional fitness. The integration of both STOTT PILATES and ZEN•GA will deepen awareness bringing a more holistic approach. ZEN•GA is a synergistic blend of mind-body modalities, supported by exercise science and the newest findings in fascial fitness. ZEN represents the search for inner discovery, while YOGA symbolizes a pathway to reach it. Together they form ZEN•GA, which is based on Four Mindful Movement Principles: breath, support, yield and flow.
When applied together, these principles bring awareness of how the body and the mind move in tandem. ZEN•GA focuses on core stability, stamina and resilience while attaining a state of presence. The increase in demand on the neuromuscular and neurofascial system affords the benefits of improved strength, enhanced elasticity and creates a more youthful, resilient and fluid body.
