BodyMind Design is a fully licensed STOTT PILATES® Certification Center. The studio offers the Intensive Program, which is designed for qualifying fitness and health professionals. Each course in the program has been carefully developed to prepare the course attendee to teach STOTT PILATES® matwork and equipment repertoire safely, effectively, and with confidence. The studio also offers Continuing Education Credit courses and workshops. For information on courses and lodging, please select the appropriate link below.

COURSES


INTENSIVE MAT-PLUS REPERTOIRE (IMP)

OVERVIEW
IMP provides the solid foundation and skills necessary to develop effective and motivating group and personal training programs.  At the end of the course, one is qualified to design and teach essential and intermediate level matwork classes, integrating small equipment to add variety and to meet specific client needs.  In addition to the general course objectives, the attendee learns:

  • Workout composition for personal and group training
  • Essential, intermediate and power workouts
  • Use of the Flex-Band®, Fitness Circle®, and Arc Barrel to enhance, support and intensify strength and flexibility exercises.



PREREQUISITES
Working knowledge of functional anatomy, some pilates training, and 3+ years teaching movement or fitness



COURSE DURATION
40 hours instruction and supervised teaching, plus minimum 10 hours observation (includes watching sessions taught by STOTT PILATES® -certified instructors or using relevant STOTT PILATES® videos), 30 hours physical review, 15 hours practice teaching.

INTENSIVE REFORMER REPERTOIRE (IR)

OVERVIEW
IR provides instruction on a broad range of exercises, variations and modifications performed on the Reformer - the key piece of resistance equipment used in pilates exercise. This course teaches the student how to combine Mat- and Reformer-based workouts for increased variety and intensity. Upon completion of this course, one is able to further motivate group classes and customize personal training sessions for a range of clients. In addition to the general course objectives, the attendee learns:

  • Effective use of resistance to enhance torso stability and peripheral extremity conditioning
  • How to develop effective Reformer and combined Mat-and-Reformer programs for personal and group classes
  • Essential, intermediate and power workouts
  • Effective communication, visual skills verbal cuing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation



PREREQUISITES
Working knowledge of functional anatomy, 30 hours of pilates training and three years of teaching movement or fitness.



COURSE DURATION
50 hours instruction and supervised teaching, plus minimum 10 hours observation
(includes watching sessions taught by STOTT PILATES® -certified instructors or using relevant STOTT PILATES® videos), 40 hours physical review, 25 hours practice teaching.

INTENSIVE CADILLAC, CHAIR & BARRELS REPERTOIRE (ICCB)

OVERVIEW
ICCB prepares the attendee to teach essential and intermediate level stretch and strength exercises on equipment designed to complement and complete STOTT PILATES® training: Cadillac/Trapeze Table, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector and Arc Barrel. By the end of this course one is able to fine-tune both personal and circuit training programs to meet a variety of clients' conditioning goals - from post-rehabilitation to athletic performance enhancement. Beyond the general course objectives one will learn:

  • How to apply STOTT PILATES® biomechanical principles for precision training
  • Use of resistance to enhance torso stability and peripheral extremity training
  • How to develop dynamic programs for one-on-one and circuit training



PREREQUISITES

    IMP + IR or CMR



COURSE DURATION
50 hours instruction and supervised teaching, plus minimum 10 hours observation
(includes watching sessions taught by STOTT PILATES® -certified instructors or using relevant STOTT PILATES® videos), 40 hours physical review, 25 hours practice teaching.

INJURY AND SPECIAL POPULATION (ISP)

OVERVIEW
This course equips you with the skills and in-depth knowledge required to address a broad range of physical challenges among your clients. Successful completion of ISP and advanced courses is required for Full STOTT PILATES® Certification. At the completion of this lecture-demonstration, you will be able to customize your clients' workouts to address particular weaknesses, conditions, postural problems or injuries. You will learn:

  • How to address a variety of injuries, weaknesses and conditions including lower back pain, spinal conditions, hip and knee replacements
  • Treating shoulder problems, neck and shoulder tension, fibromyalgia, arthritis, pregnancy
  • Application of appropriate STOTT PILATES® biomechanical principles
  • Appropriate modification of Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrel exercises
  • Effective communication, visual skills, verbal cuing and imagery for client motivation

IMP - Intensive Mat-Plus™ Repertoire and/or IR - Intensive Reformer

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS (CEC)

OVERVIEW
STOTT PILATES® -certified Instructors are required to obtain 6 hrs. (0.6 credits) of STOTT PILATES® CEC Education Credits annually in order to maintain their certification. Please refer to STOTT PILATES® website (www.stottpilates.com) for more details on Continuing Education Courses and alternative opportunities to obtain credits.

THE KNEE: STABILITY AND FUNCTION

This lecture/demo will explore the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy functioning of the knee, some of the interruptions that can occur and exercise progressions to restore function, prepare for specific activities and enhance performance. First, the available movements and functioning of the knee will be explored, and then common abnormal or dysfunctional movement patterns will be addressed. Finally, exercise progressions that can be used to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning will be outlined as well as knee joint exercise that can challenge and promote optimal performance.

PREREQUISITES: Working knowledge of functional anatomy and some Pilates training.

LUMBO-PELVIC: STABILITY AND FUNCTION

This lecture will explore the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy functioning of the lumbo-pelvic region, some of the interruptions that can occur to the ideal functioning of this area and exercise progressions to restore function, prepare for specific activities and enhance performance. First, the available movements and functioning of the lumbo-pelvic region will be explored considering the lumbar, the pelvis, the hip and surrounding musculature. Common abnormal or dysfunctional movement patterns and postures will be addressed. Finally, exercise progressions that can be used to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning will be outlined, as well as exercises that can challenge and promote optimal performance

SHOULDER GIRDLE: STABILITY AND FUNCTION

This lecture will explore the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy functioning of the shoulder girdle, some of the interruptions that can occur to the ideal functioning of this area and exercise progressions to restore function, prepare for specific activities and enhance performance. First, the available movements and typical movement patterns of the shoulder girdle will be broken down analyzing scapular movement, humeral movement and relevant muscular action. Then, common abnormal or dysfunctional movement patterns will be addressed. Finally, exercise progressions that can be used to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning will be outlined, as well as shoulder girdle exercises that can challenge and promote optimal performance.

ATHLETIC CONDITIONING ON THE STABILITY CHAIR

This workshop will introduce participants to a variety of exercises on the STOTT PILATES® Split-Pedal Stability Chair that can benefit any level of athlete. The capabilities of the Chair will be highlighted, and all its features will be utilized in the context of a well-rounded workout designed to retrain imbalanced muscles and builds on the strength and agility of the whole body. Discover functional movements against spring resistance in a variety of positions that train core stability while working bilaterally, unilaterally or reciprocally with the limbs to enhance sport-specific performance or everyday life.

PREREQUISITES: Prior Pilates chair experience preferred.

GROUP SPX™ MAT PROGRAM


Join BodyMind Design for the Group SPX™ Mat Program. This 6-hour workshop will provide you with the tools needed to take the knowledge gained in the IMP Course and apply it to group teaching situations. During this workshop you will learn:

  • 10 pre-designed group workout templates allowing you to created numerous classes
  • How to incorporate more Flex-Band® work into your classes
  • Exercises incorporating additional Fitness Circle® work into your classes
  • Introducing Toning Balls into your class work

The workouts are all based on Essential and Intermediate STOTT PILATES® matwork exercises. Whether you teach group classes at a Pilates studio, gym, or other setting, this workshop is for you. If you have already taken your exam you will earn 6 hours of CEC's from STOTT PILATES® and ACE. If you have not tested out you will now have the option of taking either the Mat Level I or Group Mat Exam within 6 months or continuing your training with additional courses. This workshop does extend your testing deadline by 6 months. Completion of the IMP course is a prerequisite for the Group SPX™.
